IS IT NORMAL TO SMELL GAS NEAR MY FURNACE?

Is it normal to smell gas near the furnace? There is no normal condition that a home owner should smell gas near the furnace. All gas and propane high efficiency furnaces a designed to meet industry safety and environmental standards therefore there is no more need for a live pilot flame to go out.

However, if you do smell gas near your furnace it can be a sign of a potentially dangerous situation! Please turn OFF your furnace and call a trained service technician right away to diagnose a potential gas leak in the piping system or a crack in your heat exchanger.

Preventive maintenance and a annual furnace tune-up can be the best way to avoid carbon monoxide or a gas leak coming from your furnace.
